Whirlpool washer sucks

I would give a negative 100 stars if I could-had it since Aug 20(brand new)-used successfully 3 times intermittently- multiple service calls and phone calls, now whirlpool can't get parts to fix. This is by far the worst piece of junk appliance I have EVER used, or should I say tried to use! Here sits a non-functioning new washer while I have to take my laundry to the laundrymat:(

Extremely finicky control board!

I bought this at the end of August, and it did not work. The control board failed, and the machine was replaced. I should be thanking you for that, but the replacement machine, after 3 loads of laundry reverted to demo mode (?), and required waiting a repair man to come reprogram it. After almost two months of trips to the laundromat (I'm 79 years old, and that hasn't been easy!), I'm almost afraid to use this machine for fear that the controls will fail, once again. I am very disappointed in a brand I always thought I could count on!

Dear Customer Service, I am writing in hopes of getting satisfaction on a recent Whirlpool purchase. On September 23, 2019, I bought a Whirlpool - 2.3 Cu. Ft. 10-Cycle High-Efficiency Compact Front-Loading Washer - White, Model No. WFW5090JW, through an online purchase from Best Buy. (Order number BBY01-805644473544). I shopped for a week and because I needed a 24-inch washer I had few choices. Unfortunately, I did not read the reviews before I bought the $900 machine. I have had pretty much non-stop problems since I bought the washer. The deliverymen/installers from Best Buy were really great guys but were not familiar with the installation process for this model washer. They told me I would have to get a Y hose because there was only one water input connection on the washer. After a trip to the hardware store I realized that advice was wrong-there would be no way to differentiate between hot and cold water with only one hose. I called Whirlpool and was on hold for ten minutes before the woman told me there was no hot water input on the machine-that the washer had a hot water heater in it. She also explained that was the reason I could not use bleach in the washer. Neither of these facts were mentioned in the description of the machine on the Best Buy website. After reading the reviews and many calls to Best Buy and Whirlpool I have believe this washer is made for mobile homes with limited plumbing options. I recently bought a new gas hot water heater and have no interest in using higher-priced electricity to heat my washer water. I regularly use bleach in my laundry and now cannot. The reviews for the washer are troublesome, to say the least. The good news is my washer does not shoe or rattle. The bad news is that the washer hasn't worked properly since the day I first got it. The power button has to be pushed several times to get the machine to turn on. The hot water is tepid. It took four days for the repairman to come tell me it would take ten days to get the parts to repair the machine. I just spent $20 and two hours at the laundromat. Yesterday's conversation with Whirlpool resulted in the person telling me "Machines are made by humans and humans make mistakes." Care counts!

This model was delivered to me mid July, 2019. Worked for 2 weeks. The technician came and said the electronical panel had to be replaced. He ordered the piece Aug.13. Still waiting for it to be replaced. Meanwhile paying and waisting time to go to the laundromat. Taking time away from work for the technician's visit. Not to mention wasted time over the phone. Very disappointed. I would not recommend the appliance.

Absolute Lemon

Do not even consider this machine. I purchased my model in June 2019. By the end of August/beginning of September, it stoped working completely. It is likely that I washed in total no more than 40 loads. The technician came to diagnose the issue and determined that the computer needed to be replaced. The computer was replaced yesterday (mid October), and we were successful in running one empty load on "quick wash". Today the control panel is unresponsive, flashing a new error code, and will not start. It's finicky, horrible and useless. I followed the directions to the letter, used Afresh cleaning tabs as directed, and even measured my he detergent so that I was putting in the appropriate amount to the milliliter. A huge disappointment. No stars.

Purchasing this washer would be A MISTAKE

I purchased this washer 2 months ago - 1 month after 3 washes, the washer wouldn`t start. Everything on the screen is perfectly fine, and the cycle is moving forward, but the machine won`t turn, no water in, nothing works. I had to take half day off from work as technician from whirlpool came 3 weeks ago, spent 5 minutes on the machine, tried to call the whirlpool techline for a testing assistance but noone picked up ... after 20 minutes of waiting, the technician left and said would call me back in a few days ... It has been 3 weeks - no call I have called whirlpool customer service 5 times in 3 weeks, and get the same message 5 times : the technician will call you back + please purchase our extended guarantee. Each call would always be preceeded by an average of 15 to 25 minutes wait. It`s the worst customer care I have ever experienced in quebec. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS WASHER - and do not ADD UPON yourself THE BURDEN of having to deal with Whirlpool Customer Care.

Broke down second time in less than 6 month

This machine is clearly defective and whirlpool keeps telling me they can not do an exchange or refund. The machine stopped working after 3 WEEKS of use. It mysteriously "turned on" by itself, making strange noises and displaying the code DEN. A technician came and said the sensor needing to be replaced. He returned two weeks later, replaced sensor and then said I had been putting in too much soap (I used only 1/4 of the bottle cap btw) and to only use one tbsp and change from Tide to Persil. I started using Persil and only put in 1 tbsp. All was good for about a month and now it has stopped working again. When I tried to do a load, the drum turned once and then stopped. The timer continued to count down the minutes and stopped at 10 minutes. I tried resetting panel but the same thing happened again. I called whirlpool again and requested new machine which they refused. They said only a technician can determine whether or not it should be exchanged. The SAME technician that came previously called me and started blaming me for breaking the machine by putting in too much soap and refused to come on a Saturday as had been arranged with the person I spoke to on the phone. I called whirlpool yet again who arranged for a different technician. His verdict: the mechanism to lock the door wasn't working and the computer inside (something different from the sensor) needs to be replaced. It will take about a week for the part to come in. Why can't whirlpool see that this machine is a lemon? I've read all the other reviews and most complain of it not working after limited usage.

Disappointing quality control

Like many other reviewers, my washer's control panel was very fiddly from the beginning. Pressing the power button to turn the unit on was fiddly and frustrating in itself. Then a few weeks into ownership, the unit stopped working and I had to replace it. It took about three weeks to finally get a replacement. The process of getting a replacement required about 10 separate emails and phone calls to their customer service. The replacement worked about a month and a half. The touch panel was also very fiddly. Finally the unit broke just like the last one. I'm now mentally preparing for my next Whirlpool customer service experience as I write this. My recommendation - stay away from the Whirlpool brand. It is terrible.

Excellent Compact Unit!

Bought this awesome compact washer one week ago from Best Buy as an out of the box product. And I couldn't be more pleased with the unit. The features are great, the unit is very quiet, and it's easy to use. Of course the best part is it is COMPACT and fits very nicely into our laundry/mud room. With the trend of washer and dryer units becoming so big and bulky, I was so happy to find this alternative. The only reason I gave this a four star versus a five is that on the ground level, it is going to be a little difficult to drain and clean the filter as suggested in the owners manual.

Worst, most unreliable appliance I've ever had

My apartment building bought a couple hundred of these for a brand-new building. I am on the fourth replacement in one month since I moved in. I have done as few as one and no more than three loads before something breaks. I will never trust whirlpool again. My understanding from maintenance staff is that nearly every washer in the building has had to be replaced. I can't believe what kind of total screw-up happened in whirlpool's design/QA operation, but clearly the staff is incompetent. In addition, the controls are funky and not at all easy to use. DO NOT BUY THIS! The dryer is not much better - takes forever to finish and then it is still not dry - the sensors are inadequate.

Avoid - DEFECTIVE Product

I bought this washer in early June 2019. It stopped working (was not able to select any options, get it to work, etc.). I made an appointment to have it serviced. I had to take off of work in order to be present for the tech. The tech arrived, spent 2 minutes and stated the panel went and it needs replacement. I was then contacted 3 weeks later to be informed that the panel replacement is backordered and they would give me a new washer. New washer arrived - and, in 2 weeks, it stopped working (today, not 10 minute ago from this review). #1 - there is clearly a known defect problem, since the tech immediately identified the issue, and... #2 - all the other reviews on this model confirm there is a defect issue I have now scheduled a 2nd service call. They should issue a recall and refund - this product is defective. Do not buy this product - it is defective.

Terrible machine with even worse service

Frustrated!

I would like to start by saying I have had whirlpool appliance in the past and have been very satisfied. I bought a new compact washing machine last month to replace our aging one. It worked great for 2 weeks and then one day seemed to be stuck in the drain setting with the door locked. Nothing could be done to reset the machine. I contacted whirlpool as the machine was clearly under warranty. They sent a repair person who determined it was a faulty control panel. I was told I would be contacted once the part came in. A week went by and I contacted whirlpool for an update. They determined that the part was back ordered and it would be over a month until it arrived. After pleading my case, that I have 3 young children at home and that having a washing machine was extremely important , I was told that they would look into getting me a replacement washer. While I felt that I shouldn't have to be replacing my washer after only having it two weeks... I was relieved that I would not have to wait on the back ordered part... I'm writing this review over a month after not having a functioning washer. I have called whirlpool more times than I can count to get updates, express my displeasure and unltimatley find out why after spending over a $1,000 on a new washer that only lasted 2 weeks, that I should have to wait over a month (and counting) to get a new washer that works (hopefully). To be honest I feel that I am a reasonable person and don't like to complain but would caution you on buying this product and dealing with whirlpool. I feel let down and frustrated by the lack of quality With the product, but mostly the lack of customer service. I still don't have my washing machine!!! I hope no one else has to drag their 3 kids to the laundromat every few days like I have been. Not fair. No compensation offered. Not impressed.

Newer model-Stopped working after 1.5 months

I bought this washer two months ago. It stopped working after 1.5 months use. Called for warranty service and now ordering some parts, still waiting for parts to come. This is a newer generation model, and there is only one water inlet, the machine heat cold water itself. I have no washer to use for two weeks now, very frustrated.

So disapointing...

It's the 4th time in 8 months that I need to spend hours waiting for the technicians to solve the problems associated with this machine... Now it just stopped working and Whirlpool doesn't give me any timeframe for solving the issue... I have everyting whirpool in my house... it is really disappointing to have so bad customer service in the phone... Don't buy this machine if you need your laundy done! In 8 months, it worked only 5!

Just like another reviewer said, ours broke in 10 days maybe after 5 loads as well. It stopped working.

first time user of compact washer

I've used this washer three times since purchase and don't quite know what to make of it. It's quiet enough and good looking, but I'm not sure that it's getting the clothes clean. I can't see any water in the tub (altho I can hear it), and the clothes are getting wet so the water must be coming into the washer. It takes an hour to do a 'normal' wash so while there might be a water savings, there is the extended electric energy use which seems to negate the 'high efficiency' aspect. After the clothes dry, they have an odd feel to them, as tho not all the soap has been spun out. The jury is still out on this one.

I bought this washer May 17th quit working June 17th repairman came out no tools or parts just confirmed it would not cycle. Parts apparently not available in Winnipeg still waiting to hear back very disappointed with Whirlpool.

Stopped working after 5 loads

Got this new from whirlpool and stopped working with "DEN" error after 5 washes. Whirlpool offered to replace the logic board but fortunately Home Depot offered to replace the whole machine. Waiting now for the new washer to arrive. Fingers crossed I don't get another lemon
